U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today applauded Michael Hogrefe, of Avon, who earned his Eagle Scout rank. Brown, an Eagle Scout himself, sent an official letter of congratulations to the Lorain County resident.

“Michael and his teachers and family should be proud of this noteworthy accomplishment. Earning the rank of Eagle Scout means he has displayed the ambition and resolve needed to earn the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank. He exemplifies the skills needed to lead in the 21st century,” Sen. Brown said.  “From one Scout to another, I am proud of his leadership, and I am confident that this young man will enjoy great success in achieving his future goals.”

The Eagle Scout award is the highest ranked award a Scout can earn. Eagle Scouts must demonstrate outstanding performance of the goals of Scouting: citizenship, character, and personal fitness. A total of 56,176 Eagle Scout ranks were awarded in 2010.

Brown became an Eagle Scout in 1967. Sen. Brown received his Eagle Scout badge in a ceremony attended by U.S. Sen. John Glenn.
